Monday July 1, 2013 marked the first day for Notre Dame in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Twenty-four of Notre Dame's twenty-six athletic teams will compete in the ACC. The football team and the hockey team will be the only two athletic teams to be separate from the league. Hockey joined the Hockey East conference today, while the football team will remain independent, but be required to play five ACC school per year starting in 2014. Pittsburgh and Syracuse also joined today making the total teams in the league 15. Louisville will join next year in all sports, replacing Maryland who will join the Big Ten next season.
